Hi, and welcome!
Do you want to start a blog to share a hobby or a passion, and make money while doing it? Maybe you just want to see if blogging is a good content marketing strategy for your brand or business. Are you an influencer looking to expand your content options and blogging voice? You might be an educator who wants to use blogs with their students…
If any of the above fits you, then I’m here to help!
Or maybe you just need to revamp your LinkedIn About section but don’t know how to get started.
I am also here to help job seekers and recent college graduates, as they comprise most of my students. The advice I share here for LinkedIn, resumes and portfolios is advice that I share with my students and that they tell me is relevant and useful. So now I am sharing it with you too!
Yep, I Really Am a Blogging Professor
My name is Susan, and yes, I really am an adjunct communication professor who has taught blogging, social media, portfolio development, and many other communication courses for many years.
Though all of my courses have a theoretical foundation in order to build critical-thinking skills, they all build professional skills and include projects and assignments that will serve as professional work/writing samples. I always share advice on how to present those samples in a writing portfolio. Making connections between the classroom and the real world is always my goal.
How I Got Here
I have been teaching in the communication field since I earning my MFA from Bennington College. I began my career in public relations for Running Book Publishers in Philadelphia where I worked my way up from publicist to director of publicity. After four years, I left to start my own freelance writing and public relations business. I had a thriving business. I worked with many authors and New York publishing houses as well as local companies and organizations, such as Camino Books, the IT department of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Federal Credit Union. I then started writing books and coaching others on how to write book proposals. Here is my Amazon author page.
What You’ll Find Here
I have never found a textbook for blogging that is current enough or that covers enough information, so I have curated my course content from the experts in the field. I have spent years keeping up with research-based best practices and trends from the research literature and industry experts like Neil Patel, Moz, Problogger, Hubspot and many others. I will share these helpful resources, and I will share my own perspective from having helped literally hundreds of people start blogs — from finding the right name for your blog to planning and writing excellent content to using social media platforms to promote your content, and so much more.
Let’s Chat!
I hope you will follow my blog and share any posts you enjoy. I consider it a privilege and honor to help new students of blogging. Teaching others, learning from them and sharing what I have learned is my calling, and I try to honor it every day.
If you want to work with me one-on-one with me or even if you just have a quick question, I’m always happy to answer if I can. Please feel free to reach out via email or LinkedIn. You can also comment on any post and I will answer.
Onwards!
